Tom Remfry, Director, Tom’s Secret Garden

Tom Remfry is an award winning horticulturist & garden designer.

His knowledge of organic gardening stemmed from his childhood. A love of nature, plants, literature and art, as well as a sensitive approach to the landscape, was an essential part of his upbringing.

Tom Remfry is a rare talent; his horticultural knowledge, experience in maintaining and constructing landscapes, his artistic sensibilities and ecological principles, define him as a leading garden practitioner.

He is a self-taught horticulturist having read a wide range of horticultural books, drawing inspiration from influential garden designers, such as Beth Chatto and Piet Oudolf and from his practice of organic principles and methods in his private gardening work.

Tom Remfry worked for a number of years for Gill’s Nursery in the construction & maintenance of gardens, followed by employment at Xavier College where he was appointed head gardener at the heritage garden, Villa Alba, Kew. His three-year contract at a large, private residence in Toorak allowed him to refine his organic methods. He received his Diploma of Horticulture in recognition of his extensive experience and horticultural knowledge at the time.

Having studied Fine Art with a passion for painting, ceramics and sculpture, his artistic sensibilities have fused seamlessly into his business practice today.
